Friends of Balmain Library (FOBL) is a non profit organisation founded in 1998. FOBL aims to support, extend and promote the service of your library, advocating the cause of the library at all levels of government.

FOBL organises events such author talks, book sales, and competitions. FOBL sponsored the competition for students of the Glass Department, Sydney College of the Arts which resulted in the windows in the new children's library. FOBL worked with Leichhardt Council over several years to see plans for the dynamic library refurbishment successfully completed.
FOBL produces a "Bookworm" newsletter and coordinates The Open Book Group.
